Default WOOSH Rocketry launch event

Our local club, WOOSH (www.wooshrocketry.org) had their monthly launch at the nearby state park, and I decided to put a few skyward.

First up was the maiden voyage of my FlisKits Stingray and Semroc Laser-X. I really enjoyed the challenge of the Stingray, and I can't sing the praises of my first Semroc enough, so I'll let me old thread do the heavy lifting.....

http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/show...highlight=laser

Both flew on a B6-4 and performed beautifully. The Laser-X even had a little whistle on the way up. The Stingray crack a wingtip fin on the hard gravel, but it was nothing a little CA didn't fix. On the Laser-X, I actually got a mid-air grab.

Next up was my part-GoonyBird, part-Centuri Fighter Fleet inspired A-10 GoonyHog. For some reason, this little pug always gets a lot of attention at launches. I got regaled with old-soldier stories from a couple of guys that used to serve around Hogs. (Let me take this time out to sincerely thank all of those who have and currently do serve in our Armed Forces).

I gave my own design, the Scarab Starfighter (http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/show...highlight=shrox) another send up. I've flown her about 10 times now, and despite a bit of nicks here and there from some rough landings, it's turned into quite the little work horse.

Next was my Sunward Galactic Wave on a C6-5. This is a really nice performing bird, with the slow, dramatic lift-offs and a couple of lazy rolls on the way up. I've documented my build modifications to turn her into sort of a Canaroc Scorpion upscale on page 3 here;

I put my salute to the design skills of Shrox, the SHX Solarkron, into the air on her fifth flight.
(http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/show...ighlight=shrox). I originally built her with a 12" chute, but then converted to an 18" to handle the weight. The 18" chute never seems to deploy well, and I think I've figured out why. I'm packin' an 18 incher into a BT-50, and I think it just gets compacted too much. I think I'm going to try using a double 12" set-up for the next flight.

Last in the air for the day was my modified Estes Renegade. I moved the wings and half of the side pods up to the main body as shwon here;

Once again, a sloooow lift-off with the booster, a bit of arcing, and then a mostly horizontal flight on the C6-5 on top. Well, at least it gave me some exercise for the day.

All in all a beautiful day of launching. To top it all off, I got to see my first K1000 Skidmark launch!

Later,
EV

On top of all that, Eric and I finally met. Nice to finally meet you, Eric.

EV has a great stable of sci-fi type rockets that he flies. I think he must polish them after each flight too. Each one he'd bring to the rangehead I'd ask him if it was its first flight since they looked brand new.

Yes, that K1000 that Tim Lehr launched in a minimum diameter rocket was quite awesome. What was also neat was the fact that after going WAY out of sight, the rocket landed within about 400 yds of the pads.
