had a short chat with john yesterday... for the most part we can build the birds using this years guildlines, he said that he is still working on the flying part. from what I understand that part could be interesting....

well John is into flying scale rackets...*disclaimer* this is rather early and has not been set in epoxy. there was mention of a possible bonus for using a scale model for a cheese lofter.
basic rules were: loft a one oz chunk of cheese, up to 40 Ns 24 mm max(iow you could use up to an E engine),
flight duration from standing start till first portion of rocket touched down.
streamer recovery.
bonus time if you got within a 50' circle.
cheese needs to be edible upon retrieval.
note:
my entry did 46 sec...the winner got 56sec and the accuracy bonus.

Those were some very impressive times for a weighted rocket on a streamer. The best time was over a minute (Roy = 61.5 seconds) but missed the circle. John's time of 56 seconds was second, and best accuracy gave him a 30% bonus (16.8 seconds) for total score of 72.8 seconds. It was a fun event by incorporating duration AND accuracy. Restricting it to an E motor included more contestants and kept it from reverting to a tracker marathon. Looking forward to next year's contest.
