Default Who was the first person to flight convert a...?

I posted this question on TRF, but perhaps the "Olde" rocketeers over here have a better knowledge of history

I am curious, who was the first person to flight-convert a spool?

Same question: regarding crayons.

Cool Flying spool sighted in South Florida

Sorry I can not answer your question as to who was first to fly one.
But I can say that I have seen a Spool Fly.
I saw it fly two times and both times it brought cheers from the crowd .
this happened some-where in South Florida , I can't remember where.
it was about a 10" plastic spool and I think it was flown on a Black Powder Estes E Motor,
it roared off the pad the engine fighting the un - aerodynamic drag.
The spool reached an altitude of about 200'-300' and then came the recovery, an osculating
corkscrew, sweeping gliding . How very cool .

The origins of both have been lost in the mists of time, but I would guess that both spool rockets and crayon rockets were independently invented multiple times over several years prior to receiving enough exposure for each one to be recognized as a "thing."

A couple of years ago on a lark I created a couple of "spool rockets" using actual wooden sewing thread spools. They flew about as well as one would expect for such a design.

Thank you. I'll be here all week--especially if I don't get out of the inland path of Isaac.
