Default J.L. Wright Albatross

While roofing our house, I found a couple of very old J. L. Wright balsa airplanes. Tried to get one out for a look and the plans started to crumble.

Anyone here know of a web site to get more information on them?

Are they Joe Ott kits? What are the planes? J.L Wright Co. Inc. of Chicago, manufacturer of Lincoln Logs, marketed Joe Ott balsa airplane kits starting in the late thirties.

The son of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Yes, really.

Somebody put model airplanes under a roof way back when?

I used to live in an old house built in the 1780's. I found lots of strange things in the walls including old newspapers and money but never a model kit or plans. Odd!

If it's a model of a sea plane it might be appropriate to place it with......

...the rafters.

Yeah, it says "Joy Ott" right on it.

Actually, they were on top of a closet, just under the roof. We had to tear off all the old shakes to put plywood down.

There was also an old metal P-47 toy and a 1939 newspaper with a headline about u-boats sinking a ship.

If you aren't into collecting old toys you should do a search on Ebay to see what similar items are going for. I think old metal toys in particular get pretty good prices.

I have looked a bit, but there is no name on the metal plane. Some are only going for about $7. It would seem there isn't much internet documentation on these...

Haven't found anything on the "Scientific Models" Hi-Flier either!

I think it's Joe Ott, not Joy Ott. No Joy, get it!

Well, I get on here at 3am while I'm still waking up...

Anyway, I take it no one has any information.
