We've just added Delta IV Rockets' Delta IV Heavy model rocket kit to our online catalog.



The Delta IV Heavy is 31 inches tall. It features large, custom-made balsa nose cones; pre-slotted body tubes; pre-cut clear fins; photo-illustrated instructions with scale data; pre-printed wraps; and three nylon parachutes.

The rocket flies on an E9-4 and two D12-3 motors. As the D12-3 motors burn out, the strap-on boosters separate while the core motor continues to burn.

This is a challenging kit to build, but produces an eye-catching model that is exciting to fly.

Unfortunately, that's just how much it costs to produce a kit of this size with quality parts.

Please consider that the Delta IV Heavy kit is the equivalent of three kits. Each of the strap-on boosters is a detailed rocket kit by itself - complete with clear fins, a motor mount, and a parachute. Also, remember, that the shipping is free for US orders.

We would have liked to have charged less, but, as it is, Carl , the developer of the kit, isn't going to make more than a few dollars off each kit. With the amount of time he put into developing the kit, Carl has probably been working for about 12 cents an hour. :-)

... but one of Carl's prototypes is signed by a number of the people who work on the Delta program.

It's great to have a parallel-staged kit (and a scale one, no less!) available, as parallel-staged kits aren't very common! A nice "bonus" is the fact that the D12 and E9 motors' thin, reddish exhaust flames are similar in appearance to the full-scale Delta IV Heavy's narrow, transparent red hydrogen/oxygen exhaust flames (and the model's blue-gray smoke trails aren't too different-looking than the full-scale bird's vapor trails).
