I do it Doug's way also. Had to make two fins for Justin's Flash (which suffered a lot of bad fortune).

The Real and direct answer
1. Leave a rocket on the seat of a car
2. Leave the rocket on a sofa 3. Have a swivel snap n flight 4. Leave your rocket on the top of your car on a windy day 5. Land the rocket in a pond or some other body of water and wait a few days I have sucessfully removed fins usin all of the above tehniques Oh on a serious note Always , Always Always trace a fin , put it in a folder on everything you EVER build , some day you thank me for this advise |

Jim (DPS) used to make a G200 that would leave the whole rocket sitting on the pad, minus the nose cone, chute, and thrust block.

The fin was easier to get off than I anticipated. That glue is some tough stuff and hard to go through with an Exacto blade. The Dremel tool with a barrel sander made short work of the glue and balsa left on the tube. It was a fairly decent operation.
The fin templates jharding58 linked to are spot on for the sustainer's fin. Perhaps I'll have the new fin on and get to some painting this weekend. Thanks folks! |
