Earl,

Thanks for posting. I will add to the Estes kit database under new approached defined in separate thread. Nice to know the background surrounding these kits and the fact they are bringing fair value.

As for our friendly price disbeliever [ghrocketman], his comments are truly consistent when rare and high grade (well preserved) kits sell for strong money.

Well how 'bout that--we actually agree on something. Probably not the part of the statement you were thinking, though

Hi Earl,

No, I remember a 'Damon Era' Blue and White colored boxed, Sat 1b, opened, selling on ebay for over $700 back in the late 1990's.

I watched this auction and was willing to go $275 - $300, then thought nah, I don't have the money to spend at the moment and like most of the items we see on ebay (on-line garage sale), it will be back up for auction in a year or two/five.

Now the Uprated 1b has sold for $500.00 (me back in the 1990's). Dumb ... I will never get my $$$ back, but at least I have it. Is it worth $500 ... hell no, but I can completely understand if you have the DISPOSABLE $$$, and you want it, then buy it... at least the bags were sealed!

I am just having so much fun seeing these kits fetch record auction prices ... hopefully I won't need medicare or social security in the next 25 - 30 years with the way these prices are inflating!

Jonathan

That person just registered and it was his first and only post. Hopefully he will contribute to the forum vs just using it to market his ebay sales.

But Scott,

Isn't what your forum is all about? Just marketing personal ebay sales!?

Just joking... but I am here smiling and laughing as I type this!

Geez, I just missed that post completely for some reason. As I recall, those kits were listed under a hobby shop name in their eBay listings. In any event, they did well by those three kits. And they did truly look mint in the listing photos.

I suppose probably a couple bidders really needed those kits to fill out a collection and just drove the prices up considerably. I don't collect/build much Estes stuff at all, save for a vintage Estes Omega I'm finishing now for the Cineroc I got last November (and plan to fly). I'm primarily a Centuri guy and, while there is competion for those kits on eBay as well, it tends to be a bit less aggressive (most of the time....).

Earl,

Who ISN'T a Centuri guy?!?

Pound per pound, they were a higher quality kit than the Estes offering; I think Lee had to be in order to keep up with Vern.

A lot of people go gogo gaga over an OT, Mars Snoper/Lander, or Maxi-Brute, but Centuri had the BEST B/G Kits: Space Shuttle, SST Shuttle, Swift. It had the BEST scale kits with its Little Joe II, Saturns, and Mercury Redstone. Its futuristic and military designs, Estes NEVER matched and wound up renaming/re-releasing them under its name.

No my first ever rocket was a Centuri rocket (Micron) and it will also be my last when I am buried ... I want to be buried with a mint sealed Little Joe II

Jonathan

P.s. you know the Estes's will likely have the SAME send off when that day comes
