Default My mystery project

Right around the time that my break started, I placed a late night order to Semroc for a load of parts for a project that had me pretty fired up at the time. I know I'd been toying with the idea of building an upscaled Estes Condor, but I'd been unable to find a nose cone that would have been a true upscale of the Estes PNC-50Y. With that on the back burner for a while, I decided to stick with the upscale theme, but in a different direction. I ordered a BNC-60AM nose cone, which would have been meant for a BT-60 sized Estes K-53 Stinger or a 1911 Courier.
The problem is I can't remember which one it was. I have both as 1:1 birds, but I've not been entirely enamored of either one. In the end I decided on the K-53 Stinger, mostly because of the classic K-kit look. This one will mostly be for use at B6-4 Field, but I'm going to go with a 24mm engine mount so that I can get respectable air if I ever make it to another cornfield launch.

Interesting project pick, I just glued the fins on my BT-60 Stinger last night at the build session. Already have the decals from Gordy for this so if I ever catch up on my painting I'll be ready.

Interesting indeed. What do the decals look like? I was just planning on going with an upscale of the wrap from YORP and maybe a vintage Estes logo.

The decals are the ones from the Beta. Sheet has two waps, one I think came from the Wizard and the bar pattern the original Stinger used.

That's what I thought. I was going to use that one as well.

MANY years ago I built a BT-60 upscale of the Estes Wizard with a 29mm engine mount.
I flew it several times on 24mm Estes D12-5's and a few times on Aerotech 24mm E15's and E30's.
It was destroyed on a vintage Composite Dynamics 80n-sec full-F 29mm F45 that catoed on ignition.

I have my BT-80, which is essentially just an Estes Optima/Broadsword with a different nose cone. Flies great on Estes E9's. I want to try it on an E12, then who knows? I guarantee the fins would stay on. I used epoxy clay for fillets. They could survive a blast that killed cockroaches.

My F45 cato literally blew the fin-can section of the rocket apart.
It was FUGLY.
I think I used Tango-Papa for the decals; it was before Roachwerks was in the decal biz.
