Default Recent club launch

Well, yes, it has been a week , but I finally am getting around to posting about my local club launch (ASTRE # 471).

A late Friday night 'GO! for Launch' announcement left me in a scramble...
I quickly assembled a dozen or so medium to large-ish rockets as the hay was
kinda tall.

It rained pretty much the whole way out, and I wondered if we would end up in a
diner or something. Miracurously, the rain was no where to be seen when I arrived at the field. My little Mini Cooper slid through the muddy cow-patch, and waded into the almost thigh
high grass.

I first flew a model for the set duration contest. 45 sec was the goal, so I went for my
newly completed 'Sandman Sprint': a BT-56 based Sprint upscale. E9-6 powered, with
a 6" x 60" streamer recovery. Man, that sucker SOARED. The Wal-mart mylar
'Emergency Blamket' streamer was the only reason that I spotted this bird on
the way down. Final time ended up at about 1min, 8sec. Oh well!!

Other highlighted flights included: my Cobra clone in pre-damon colors and
decals, flying on 3 B6-4s, and my Centuri Merc Redstone on an AT D-21. This
motor chuffed twice, squatted down, and ripped one into the sky! Spectacular!

I also flew my new Goony: the KRAM (read it backwards) as a spot lander. The
rocket flew nice and low on an A8-3, seperated in the middle at apogee, and the
crepe paper streamer brought it down very near the target.

My Nike X 2-stager failed to ignite the upper stage, and lawn darted with no
injury. I changed both motors, and re-launched, and the rocket performed
flawlessly. B6-0 to A8-3 motors meant that I did not have to walk far.

As I am apparently a glutton for punishment, I flew the SPRINT again as my last
flight. By now the wind had picked up, and even with the streamer, I ended up
going down the hill, into the cow patch, through the scrub, over the tree line,
and another 50 yards.before reaching the rocket.

Although it only sprinkled rain once or twice, my sneakers are still wet from
the grass!!

As I cannot attach the video of the second Sprint launch, please click on the below link for the video and other pics. Unfortunately, I did not know that I could not rotate the video 90 degrees, so, the sprint launches sideways... or I guess that you could turn your head sideways to watch....

You're not alone. I did the same thing a few weeks ago when I flew the USS Atlantis with the FlisKits cluster. I'm so used to taking launch shots with the camera sideways that it never crossed my mind that the movie would be sideways. If you ever find a way to right them, let me know.

VirtualDub has a rotate filter. I've already fixed Phred's video. (Looks better right side up, but I still can't get the fingers out of the way )
