Yes. At the Manufacturers' Forum Sunday night Ellis was asked about the fate of the C11 motor. I noticed that when he had a positive answer to a question he said so. Otherwise he would give a 'non-answer'. He gave a 'non-answer' on the C11.

He did say that John Boren had done some updates to the detail wraps to make it more accurate for Apollo 11 (hopefully get rid of those air scoops, add the hold downs, maybe the S1 umbillical connector, and only 4 (or no) ullage rockets (though I liked the look of the ullage rockets).

Ok, the suspense is killin' me....what was said/discussed with Ellis about the B14 ???
Was it anything other than a BIG FAT NO ? I'd even GLADLY settle for the "pintle ported" B8/C5 series. SOMETHING with a real kick off the pad in a 18mm NON-composite (read reasonable cost) engine.

John Boren’s “office” would better be described as a laboratory/workshop. It was huge! I think there was a desk but there were lots of rockets on display on benches, for all to see. You could only look in from the doorway, but there was some cool stuff in there.
And that’s all I’m saying.

I understand that the air scoops and extra ullage rockets aren't scale for SA-506, but they do look cool. John's a devious son of a gun for making those changes. Now those of us that have multiples of other versions will have to get multiples of the new version.

Four is the correct number of ullage motors for Apollo 11 - on one of the subsequent Apollo missions they got rid of them entirely - I want to say it's Apollo 15 but I'm not sure and my references are currently 1500 miles northwest of here (John actually reached out to me a few months ago asking about the ullage motors since I knew I was a big Saturn junkie ). He's been working from some drawing by the late Mike Doffler and was unsure about why there were different numbers of ullage motors. Like I said, the 50th Aniversary Estes Saturn V will be enhanced (and 'more scale') than the previous versions, but I promised not to elaborate. |

It was brought up during the afternoon factory tour. He was non-commital, but was obviously surprised by the amount of interest there is in bringing it back. |
