Default Mega Missile Toe question

As you might remember, a big part of my NARAM plan was to fly all of my recently completed BT-80 Goonys in one day. Back when NARAM was looming, I had sticker decals that I planned to use to finish up the fleet, but it didn't work out. When my NARAM plans crashed I kind of pushed all of the detail work to the back burner, but I've recently started looking to finish the remaining Goons. I printed up new decals on Bel white inkjet paper and applied them to the Missile Toe tonight. They look great, but I'm at something of a loss about how to proceed with the black "wrap" paint job that I need to simulate the bandage. Have any of you ever finished a Missile Toe? I was thinking that I could use thin masking tape on each side of the remains of the tube spirals, painting the exposed area between the two pieces of tape. Does this sound reasonable? I figured that the lines just need to suggest a tape job, they don't need to be razor sharp, so should I rip the tape down the middle and paint between the ragged edges? Am I overthinking this? I'd appreciate any opinions or tips as long as they don't suggest that I place the Goony in a dark orifice. Thanks in advance. I think.

On my Missile Toe kit I built many years ago, I painted the body tube white and then cut black graphic art tape to make the black lines.

You could, also, try Carl Goldberg R/C Color Stripe.

I painted mine white and used black pinstripe decal to do the spiral lines. I forget how wide they are, but not more than 1/8" for the original size. The lines don't need to be sharp, but I would think it's easier to spray the thing white and use decal or as Bob said, R/C model pinstriping to do the lines. And yes, you are ovrthinking this

I want to do the Goony justice. One day they're going to get the respect they deserve, and I plan to be hanging ten at the front of the wave, baby.

Dude!

I finished most of the Zoom Broom work this afternoon. All that's left is the fin scallops. When that's done, it's on to the Galaxy Guppy. That one requires a bunch of freehand pen work, so it could take me a while. For that kind of work, my hands have rarely been allowed freedom.

The Missile Toe came out looking pretty good, despite my efforts. There are a few spots where I slipped, but I can live with them if you can. I should be ready for a photo-op this afternoon, and hopefully a flight this weekend along with the Goony brethren.
