I'm using the cheapo paint (Wal-Mart and Dollar General) and I've discovered that the best time to pull off the tape is about 20 minutes after I paint the rocket. Go real slow, and if the paint starts to lift, stop and let it dry another 10-20 minutes.

I do have to touch up sometimes, but usually I get good results (though hardly professional grade, as they say). If I didn't hate sanding so much, my rockets could look even better...

I did some painting on the Tuber today, using Valspar primer and paint. I primed it the nose cone the other night, then sprayed it gloss black this evening. By the time I carried it in from the deck it had already begun to crackle.
Back to the drawing board. (Or painting deck, as it is. )
