The main taste difference between Bailey's and the cheaper brands is due to the use of crappy Irish whisky used by the cheap-o brands.

Absolutely. I guess I just like to assemble things and enjoy (or note areas for improvement) the results. I'm like that with beer, too. I can't make a home brew anywhere near as nice as my favourite craft beers, but a lot of the enjoyment comes from the brewing process along with the sampling afterward.

I thank you all very much for your information, experiences, and suggestions! Lee's pudding cup dessert has inspired an experiment--I'll try Irish Cream (our Wal-Mart liquor store stocks a few brands besides Baileys, plus a couple of different variants of it) on flan, the baked custard pudding (it's often thought of as a Spanish dessert, but it goes back to ancient Rome and France [Gaul]), and:

Having tried the Baileys for the last two days (I'm using an old 30 ml NyQuil dosing cup that I washed), I'm happy to report that, at least for me, it does work as a muscle relaxant. I take 30 ml on an empty stomach in the morning. After 20 - 30 minutes, my neck muscles loosen up.

It certainly sounds very medicinal when you say it like that.

I'm doing it more with $$ in mind, though. The measuring cup is convenient, and I hoped (correctly) that 30 ml would be enough, and it also makes a 750 ml bottle last almost a month.

I'm surprised that 30 ml of a relatively low alcohol content liqueur has any appreciable muscle relaxant effect.
I'm a light drinker (3-4 beverages a week, maybe three 1.5 oz shots in each drink, Manhattans neat, Scotch neat, etc) and can say 30 ml of Bailey's would do absolutely nothing for me.

Maybe you've developed a tolerance for those. :-) Having been an "inculcated teetotaler" (growing up, we were just hardly exposed to it, but not for religious or moral reasons; my parents grew up during the Great Depression, and alcohol was--and is--several times as expensive per milliliter as soft drinks, tea, juices, etc.), it's still "new" to my system. It's also possible that the placebo effect could be largely behind its benefit to me, but the placebo effect is real (it accounts for 30% of the benefits of drugs, and tests of new drugs have to be designed to take it into account).
