So does anyone know what happened to Al??? I hung out with him a lot at the Pearl River seminars and early rocket meets in Allentown PA. He was a great guy and just seems to have vanished.

What Did The 'Ram' Stand For?
The one thing I never really 'got' was what the 'RAM' in Nike-RAM stood for. Was it some sort of a take off on SAM (Surface-To-Air-Missile) or ARM (Anti-Radiation-Missile), etc.?
I've tried to come up with something hobby-wise that might stand for RAM, but I'm kinda lost.......Research Air Model? I dunno. Can someone enlighten me? I've searched through my Enerjet catalog materials and a boxed Nike RAM I recently picked up, but cannot find any clues to help answer my question. Earl

Guys,
I designed the MAGNUM NIKE-RAM for Al Andrake, including the Baffle Ejection system. It was not a true "upscale" of the Enerjet Nike-Ram . I gave him the choice of choosing between 3 or 4 fin designs. NIKE-RAM 2 the "NIKE -H" or whatever he called it was a power upgrade. AL told me that he wanted a model that was easy to build, resistant to damage, and durable . . . And, so it began ! Dave Fitch |

Does anyone know whatever happened to Al Andrake. I met him several times at different rocket launches and he was always a great guy to deal with. At some point he just dropped off the planet. Letters sent (orders) would not be returned but not answered. Just curious if anyone knows.

Enerjet had a Nike-Smoke and a Nike-Ram, The Ram being their minimal diameter rocket for 29mm Enerjet motors, which were a true technological breakthrough at the time. Ironically the Nike-Smoke had a ram air input to blow smoke (talc) out the bottom side of the nose cone. The EJ motors themselves had very little smoke from their flexane binder.

There were rumors that Al got tossed out of the house by his wife after some extramarital shenanigans. After that, nothing.
It might be a sad story we don't want to know the details of.

As to Andrake, someone posted about 6 months back that he was selling off some tubing and such. I sent him a letter, and he replied back, so he is alive and hopefully well.
Of course, I was not interested in the tubing and such but obsolete motors and what not. Sent him a letter back about the many items I was interested in and never heard back from him. AAA was good stuff. OLD SCHOOL! |
