I collect Alphas, and have two versions of the Alpha II from (I believe) the 1990's. One version is a standard hangtag kit and the other is an educator pack with building supplies including glue a knife and a guidebook similar to the old 1970's F.R.O.G.S. educator pack. The educator kit has fin lines already drawn on the BT. Both have plastic nosecones, and both have die cut fins.
I have been told over the years that the Alpha II moniker was a mostly internal designation for Alpha kits with the plastic nosecone. Jimi, it appears that your ALPHA II has the fin lines drawn on the tube as well. Am I correct? This is the only difference I can see from the regular Balsa coned Alpha of the period. I have ever seen the wonderful early 70's version you have, it is a great find! Phred Below are pics of the front and back of the kits:

I think you may have answered my question. I have an Alpha like the one you have in the educator pack;it has the same decals and a plastic nose cone. The facecard just said "Alpha". Wonder when they dropped the "II" designation. Thanks,Phred. -Steve |
