Default Interplanetary war: prelude

Hello All,

In his 1979 book, “Space Weapons, Space War” (see: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Sea...e+War&kn=&isbn= ), John W. Macvey—who wrote primarily about possible future *interstellar* warfare in that book, and how humanity might prevent or win such conflicts—also predicted that ^interplanetary^ war between groups of terrestrials, over resources and/or living space, was likely to occur in the future. Well, in just the last few hours, events have occurred that appear to be posturing for supremacy in and beyond Earth orbit (and just as the Apollo program [and its technologies] was conceived and executed in response to Soviet geopolitical pressures, this new, growing interplanetary enmity will--in time--result in new technologies that could be utilized for interstellar probes). These events are as follows:

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, less than six hours ago, announced that India has successfully tested an anti-satellite missile (ASM) against a mini-satellite in Earth orbit (see: http://www.google.com/search?source...131.51RzQEbKiIQ ), and he said that India is becoming a "space superpower" (which is no idle boast when one has anti-satellite weapons *and* medium- to heavy-lift launch vehicles, plus military satellites, a manned program [they've already tested the capsule and its booster in flight], and lunar & planetary probes, as India does). Also (the following happened just hours ago):

Vice President Mike Pence, in a speech to the National Space Council (see: http://www.google.com/search?ei=izG...0.ljm G2EcfHoo ), set a firm goal of landing American astronauts on the Moon within five years. He mentioned China’s lunar ambitions—for military (perhaps future laser weapons trained on Earth targets? The Chinese make long-range plans...) and economic purposes—and he said that the Moon (due to its location and resources, for self-sufficient communities) is high ground that we cannot cede to China (this was also mentioned in a radio news report this morning), and:

The Vice President spoke yesterday at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama (see: http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showt...8423#post228423 )—in addition to describing the rapid growth of the U.S. Space Force, he also drove home the urgency of carrying out the “within five years” lunar return on schedule, pointing out that the President has directed that it be done “by any means necessary,” even if keeping to the five-year schedule requires that we use privately-developed rockets and spacecraft. (He also mentioned that Canada has become the first international partner on the Lunar Gateway [Earth-Moon L2 point] station, having signed a 24-year contract for this project.) As well:

While I would prefer to see spaceflight capabilities developed in cooperation rather than confrontation, for exclusively peaceful purposes, we must deal with the world and humanity as they are, not as we wish they were. One of the few positive things about war—and even preparation for war—is that it rapidly advances the state of the art in existing technologies, and brings about the birth and rapid growth of new technologies that were previously only pipe dreams (as the V-2 ballistic missile and the Manhattan Project demonstrated). I don't fear a space war breaking out any time soon, but the events of the past day are the sorts of things that countries that are preparing for future wars--and to deter war being made against them--have historically done.

I hope this information will be helpful.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

As long as they were ours, I'd be fine with that, too. Unfortunately, such craft--or their equivalents--would more likely belong to the visitors (who hopefully wouldn't be inclined to come and stay and take, to our detriment).
