Bar
This question didn't fit in any of the other posts so I'll just stick it here
Is a BAR (Born again rocketeer) mean they are Christian? Just curious. |

Assuming you're being serious, no. Or at least not necessarilly... It means you did rocketry years ago as a kid, left the hobby for a good long time, and are now back (usually with particular vigor...). http://www.faqs.org/faqs/model-rockets/BAR/ should answer all you need to know... -Tim (who DOES happen to be a Christian...) |

what Tim said .
I've also seen it as YABAR ( yet another born again rocketeer ). The born-again part coming from the reentry into the hobby after years away. Being a semi-devout Baptist myself, the ' Born-Again' thing used to bother me slightly, but it's not meant to be detrimental, so no big deal . Not trying to start a religious debate, sorry. ( not sure you meant that either ). I do recall when I got a catalog years back from , iirc, Aerospace design ( something like that, they sold planpacks, I don;t have the catalog in front of me right now - do recall they attached a post-it on my order re: " glad to find a TRUE born-again rocketeer " , after a comment I;d made, so apparently others have thought on the nomenclature before. just my 2 talents worth . now back to our old rockets ~ AL |

So the point is, it's just a matter of the "same words" having a different meaning, depending on your personal frame of reference. Cheers, --Jay (who cleverly evades the inquiry regarding his spiritual condition) |

To me it meant your INTEREST/PASSION/INVOLVEMENT in rocketry was/were re-born..

Very interesting. I would have never thought that the phrase had a religious tone in it.

"Spirit"tually, I like 80% spirits or better, with some ginger-ale, over ice, in a tall glass, with rockets to build ,and a real good football game on, or my favorite oldie station. |

OK everyone calm down, I just asked a question. Besides, whats wrong with being a Christian anyway? I'm one.
So a BAR is some old person interested in rockets ? Am I the only person here that is under 18? |

You don't actually have to be old to be a BAR, but most of us are over say 35.
It just means you left the hobby for an extended period of time an then came back. In my case, I was involved from about 1977 to 1987, then left due to college, career, getting married, and TONS of other activities ...came back in 1999 with a vengeance and probably have purchased in the past eight years at least 4 times the kits I bought the first 10 years. One common thread among most BARs is that they almost universally share a fondness toward all the "golden-era" model rocket kits from about 1960 to 1980.
