Exclamation Cherokee-X (2X Upscale)

JumpJet's project looked interesting, so I thought I'd revisit the design and try to work one up using the general outline that was mentioned in the thread.

The major difference between John's design and this one is, this one is based on the 'short body' version. John's design (as stated) is based around the 'long-body' version.

The performance is nothing short of outstanding, which is a tribute to the original design and its designer. I simulated the model through four power classes (F37 thru I69) and five selections. The lowest stability margin with any of these was better than 2.00, with no ballast required.

John's version used solid plywood fins. Mine attempts to reduce some of the rear mass (though this is not shown on the RKT file) by using a three-layer lay-up, consisting of a 3/16" core and two 1/16" skins. With careful use of epoxy resin, the final mass of these fins should be lower than comparable solid fins. The downside is, it's an additional step of construction. Laser patterns are included below for the fins and for the centering rings.

Model specs:

Length: 43.00"
Diameter: 2.64" (BTH-80)
Fin Span: 12.47"
Weight: 14.02 oz

F37W-6.........895'......Dv 7 FPS.......72" guide length required
F25W-6........1411'......Dv 9 FPS.......48" guide length required
G64W-8........2230'......Dv 10 FPS......36" guide length required
H180W-10......3342'......Dv 5 FPS.......36" guide length required
I69-10........5484'......Dv 13 FPS......36" guide length required

Launch lugs are not shown on the plan. You will need to run the simulations again to see what the performance loss should be once a decision has been made as to the use of lugs, buttons, or some other guide method.

Enjoy!
