When my clock radio turned on at 5:29 am, "On the Good Ship Lollipop" was playing, and I was instantly sure what had happened!

Funny, I would have thought she would have been older. Shirley Temple movies were really old school when I was a kid.

She was just really, really young when she was a star.

Yeah, I had it in my head that she was in her 90's. Back in the dark ages, when we only had 3 TV channels, I can remember seeing her old movies being rerun on Sunday mornings.

Even in the 60's there were still millions of little girls becoming fans of the young Miss Temple. I recall my sister getting a mug with Shirley's image on it. So she was still very popular (and profitable) long after she retired from the movie biz.
...
I remember an article I read years ago about Hollywood in the 1930's. The big stars of the day were folks like Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. But, while some movie executives didn't want to admit it, Shirley was top box office - her movies pulled in the most for a while there!

Do you remember when Cindy Brady dress up like Shirley Temple to audition for "Lovey Howell"? I read somewhere that they wanted the real Shirley Temple to play the part that Lovey Howell played. She wasn't interested.
