The NAR has more power in relation to this issue than many realize.
I believe the CPSC (an organization that should NOT exist as it protects IDIOTS that should be thinned from the "herd") requires NAR certification before motors can be sold; this soundly puts NAR, not the manufacturer, in the position of POWER.
NOBODY in the USA other than NAR S&T to the best of my knowledge can legally certify SU BP model rocket motors/engines. That means NAR can hold the manufacturers 'hostage' NOT vice-versa.
WHY would a manufacturer oppose rocket hobbyists from legally mailing motors between themselves anyway ?
Another area NAR needs to change is expiration of motor certification.
It makes ZERO sense that a B6-4 produced in 1971 is still certified because said motor is still produced, yet a C5-3 produced in 1999 is NOT due to the motor being no longer produced.
TOTALLY MORONIC !

Agree with you 100% on the certification thing... IMHO once a motor is certified, it should REMAIN certified despite going out of production... all the "remaining examples" should remain certified, anyway, even if the motor designation and manufacturer have gone "inactive"... It's patently STUPID, as you pointed out. The ONLY time a motor certification should be pulled is in the event of the motor having been found through proper testing to be statistically unable to meet the requirements (ie too many cato or malfunction).

As for the shipping thing, I tend to agree, but I think they're just not willing to "take on" the shipping regulations and push for change. Probably a lot of it is fear of "rocking the boat" and having it blow up in their feces, or something...

Later! OL JR

Good price on vintage Estes Battlestar Galactica Laser Torpedo still shrink wrapped at $19.99. Shipping a bit steep at $10, but not awful.

This seller lists one of these fairly regularly, so he (they) must have some stock of them.

Default MPC Flat Cat BG Kit

If you are in to vintage MPC kits and G. Harry Stine BG designs, this is about the best price I've seen on the old Flat Cat kit. Still shrink wrapped and looks mint. Says they have 'more than 10' available. This is not from Sky High Hobbies on eBay who actually probably sells the most of these old MPC kits (good, reliable source btw).

Price is $19.95 plus some shipping.

At any rate, here's the link:

And he has feedback! So far he's 1 for 1, but the engine mounts and instructions have yet to be delivered.

This was an awesome Centuri Starter Set that went for a ton of dollars. Hopefully the seller tossed the engines in.
