Default Finished Estes Skybolt

I started this project last summer, but when I tried to print off a set of decals, they came out about twice the appropiate size. I'd hoped to fly it at NARAM, but I decided to wait until it was truly finished. With that idea in mind, I ordered a set of decals from Excelsior, and with a launch scheduled for Saturday, the time was right.

Pre-decals.

I think I made the right choice.

you aren't going to launch that in Ohio with the Michigan silhouette on it are you?

I also dragged out two other, even older projects that I bought decals for; the Sentinel and the Defender, both 2006 projects. I've flown the Sentinel, and it shows. I've already sprung a fin and the white paint is far from pristine. Since it still needs the silver sliver at the top of the body tube, I'm just going to start over tomorrow with a new coat of white. The Defender has never flown, but the "hangar rash" from sitting around the shop for six years means that it will also be getting new paint.

The Estes Sentinel is one of my all-time faves! As for the silver band, I always do it with silver or chrome tape. I think it looks neater and it reinforces the mouth of the BT.

......like on this one I built in 2010:

I have a hard time believing that I could get tape to look that good at the end of a body tube. Paint, on the other hand, I think I've got the handle on.
Whatever the case, if mine turns out looking that nice, I'll be thrilled.
