Default Rocketflite, indeed

Those were indeed Rocketflite BP motors, from the early to mid 90s. Available in either 'standard' or 'Silver Streak' format, the latter being a heck of a sparky!!

They had cardboard casings, but with an aluminum inner liner, on the 38mm ones. G160 and H220. Used a lot of the F50s, great demo motors if lower on total impulse. Really miss those.

Had Mike Platt (remember him?) from Microbrick come down here in Jan 93 from NYS with several ammo cans full of these. Wanna guess how many he left with??

Would really like to see these back again, but doubt it.....

Both the 29mm and 38mm Rocketflite motors used aluminum wrapped with paper.

I bought quite a few Rocketflite motors at LDRS in Argonia around 1994 from Ross Dunton of Magnum. There were F50, G160, and H220, in regular BP, and the Silver Streak models. Never had a failure, except with one many years later. I'm sure it suffered from thermal expansion/contraction and failed due to breach between propellant grain and casing. The ejection charge went off almost immediately.

We brought a number of Silver Streaks home to Colorado to use at night launches. Very fun/impressive motors. Would love to see them come back some time.

I'm really surprised we now have 29mm SU BP F motors now from Estes due to the risks of pressing large quantities of BP, let alone G and H motors.
I highly doubt we will see G and H BP SU motors again but they would be cool.

, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

The first "generation" of Rocketflite motors -- F only -- had thick paper cases. They were designated F101, which was as much of a lie as the FSI F100. F50 was much more honest!

I remember a few spectacular catos of the early Silver Streak motors. A friend videotaped a two-motor cluster flight in which one of the motors blew out. Following that is this confused scene of people running around stomping out grass fires, shooting a fire extinguisher, and hollering at new outbreaks.

The later aliuminum case motors were pretty reliable. I got the impression that the later varieties of G160 and H220 were kind of dodgy. I had a PML Io crack open when an H catoed.

I'm honestly still amazed ANYONE mass-produced SU BP G motors let alone H220 motors successfully.
Until the Rocketflite G/H motors, the largest widely available SU BP motors were the barely-an-F FSI 27mm F100/F7 series. Of course the old 29mm Centuri Mini-Max F97 was higher total impulse and average thrust than the FSI F100, but those were not produced after like 1971 or 72.

Yeeeeeaaah.......I had a G160 cut loose back in early '94 that scared the $h!t outta me as well as blowing apart the glider pod. Also, since the gliders wings were foamboard based, they were ignited by the Silver Streak contents (Mg)...

OH, and a "few" fires to put out, too.....

Too bad Roger wasn't around for *THAT ONE*!!

PICSHURESS!

These were among the last Rocketflite motors I bought. Sold them off nearly 18 years back.

Most impressive Rocketflite flight: F50-0 to F50-7SS, in a NCR Quasar II. It was dusk. The silver streak igniting a couple of hundred feet up was quite an impressive site.

Still have one F50 left, with the label torn off.

Greg Dyben was the Rocketflite guy:

He still is the Rocketflite guy, but now he sells igniters.
