Okay, I'll start off by saying that this is not for the squeamish. Or Don.
We had our pool opened yesterday. It's a lovely shade of green for this time of year. I've been doing what I can to keep the skimmer clean and tonight after dinner I sent my son out to take his turn. He came back in almost immediately. "DAD! THERE'S A SQUIRREL IN THE POOL!" (He said it just like that. I could see and hear the upper case in his voice.)
Sure enough, there in the deep end floated the squirrel. I sent Sam back in for the net, and since the light was still good, I took some pics for the Christmas card. When Sam came out with the net, I poked the squirrel to make sure he wasn't a Ninja Squirrel or something, lying in wait for an unsuspecting homeowner. He wasn't faking. Rigor Mortis had set in. I had Sam take a few pics of me with the squirrel. They didn't turn out.
Did I mention that the pool was green? So was the squirrel.

Sam said that he had chased a squirrel that fit the description of this one out of my wife's flowers earlier in the afternoon. It ran down toward the pool and he heard a splash, but didn't think anything of it. The water level is low in the pool right now, so he probably got in and couldn't get to the shallow end where the steps are. I don't know how well squirrels swim. (But they float just fine. )

We had a pool when I was a kid as well. We experienced dead squirrels in the pool at Spring opening a number of times.

I'd say if the Squirrels name wasn't Rocky with a big moose for a best friend, he probably didn't stand a chance .....
