Odd rocket failures
Hello All,
While looking up information on the Thor-Burner launch vehicles, I came across a brief but informative--and somewhat troubling--article (see: http://www.thespacereview.com/article/1234/1 ) by Wayne Eleazer, titled "All things old are new again." Now: This article in interesting because it covers odd rocket failures and the solutions that were found to prevent their recurrence (the Nike-Zeus ABM was cancelled because of a strange but fortuitous Atlas ICBM target's in-flight anomaly--this is just one example). But it is troubling because the learned wisdom isn't being recorded for the benefit of future aerospace engineers and vehicle operators, which could have deadly consequences for space travelers, including space tourists. As the older engineers and technicians retire and leave us, what they learned from experience is dying with them, which--needlessly--dooms current and future workers in the field to have to re-learn the lessons that their forebears did.
