Default Stefan's Finally Finshed Finishing Thread

Took advantage of some good weather to finish, or finish finishing, a few models.

Baby Bertha! A gift from my brother for last year's birthday. I built it at a Maker Faire event. Gave it a nice slick finish, with some wet sanding and polishing compound work.

I was disappointed at the decals. One peel-and-stick!

Long Tom! The Estes re-release of Centuri's answer to the Avenger.

I wish this had pass-port staging. I have having to tape motors together.

I ran out of clear coat halfway through, and started on a new can. Which turned out to be matte coat. So the upper half of the sustainer is glossy and the rest is matte. Which doesn't look at all bad! But I'm not going to re-spray one or the other.

A reworked Estes Renegade-D

I built this as a two-stager, returning to the kit's original design but using a 24mm mount in the booster. I figure a D12-0 will get it moving along smartly.

I also put in a streamer and shock cord in the booster's fuel pods. There are duct holes in the space ahead of the booster into the pods. My hope is that the burn-through gas deploys the streamers. And that the nose cones and shock cords don't get caught on the sustainer!

I also swapped out two of the upper stage fins for ones that Frank Burke salvaged from one of the Interceptor type kits he uses as raw material for his fancy gliders. They look more wing-like.

I deliberately used matte coat clear spray.

Finally, a Hawk's Hobby Bandit upscale.

This is a GREAT kit. I flew it once on a RMS E motor, and it flies great too.

I finally got around to compounding the paint job and applying decals. Unfortunately, the decals were really thin and fragile. The roll bar and several smaller decals all split and crumbled. I cut the "U.S. AIR FORCE" decals in half, so I would not have to work with such big pieces. Even so I had to repair them with black marker.

I recreated the roll bar with trim tape. Not an exact match, but close!

I used clear coat this time. It came out looking pretty good!

Did you do anything with the Renegade to reinforce the pods at the end of the fins? I've been afraid of them for my builds - but I might just be overly concerned.

I built up nice big epoxy fillets. Otherwise, no. If I were more ingenius I would have figured out pins or tabs.
