Default Estes SR-71 Kit 7003 Plans and fin pattern wanted

Hello all,

I purchased a slightly busted up Estes SR-71 Blackbird Kit 7003 on Ebay a little while back and it is missing the two top fins. The seller was kind enough to send the box with the rocket, but no instructions, broke off fin or fin pattern.

To my surprise, I'm having a hard time locating a decent scan of the fins or instructions via Google.

There was another Estes kit of the Blackbird that was released in a bag and not a box. Are they basically the same kit?

I'm needing some dimensions of the top fins and a scan would be great and I'm also needing to know if the plans call for the top fins to be canted inward slightly like the real life Blackbird.

One last question. How well does this rocket fly?

Thanks in advance for you help,

David

At http://www.semroc.com/Store/scripts...arts.asp?ID=275 it says #1942 "Became #7003". That may not help much, though, since the usual suspects don't seem to have #1942 either.

#1942 was in the catalog from 1985 to 1995; #7003 from 1996 to 1998; and then #1942 again from 2004 to 2010. Seems odd; if the two were the same, why would the re-release use the older model number?

Chris Michielssen did a build of (apparently) #1942 — the newer release of that number — just recently: http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot...rt-1-parts.html

I got a set of plans that I traced the fin patterns on. I'll scan them and post them here.

Better yet, PM me your E-mail. The only thing I don't have on ethier plan is the tube alignment jig. Sorry. I'll keep looking.

Daniel.

I finished repairing my bird tonight. I papered the fins to make them stronger. I don't know where I bought the Balsa I used, but it was flimsy.

Thanks for the help on locating a pattern for the fins.

I like your rocket holder idea.
