Default Estes Mix-It Up Kit

While at NARAM-54 Estes Marketing Director Mike Fritz had displayed several new and upcoming kits.

On of these kits was the Mix-It Up. The idea came from one of the Estes employees who thought it would be interesting if the plastic parts for a rocket were molded from a mix of different color plastics.

Mike donated the products on display in the Estes tent to the NARAM-54 auction and door prizes. I picked up the Mix-It Up kit during the NARAM Awards Banquet.

The Mix-It Up is an E2X kit, all the parts are pre-colored. The plastic fin unit consists of six parts plus three fins. It's designed to work with BT-50 bodytube. There is a twist-on plastic motor retainer to hold in 18mm motors.

The model went together pretty quick with CA adhesive. No painting is required and the decals are self-adhesive.

The kit has yet to show up on the Estes website but I've attched some pictures for your information.

Hi Bob,
Pretty interesting idea.
I noticed the "mixed up" fins and nose cone are a little lighter in color than on the face card picture. Not a complaint, that happens all the time with plastic (and even TV dinners)

I didn't see Estes in the NARAM Live Manufacturer's Forum video.
Was there anything else upcoming in the their product line?

Chris,

There are a couple of photos in the "NARAM 54" thread that shows a few new upcoming kits. I had a great conversation with Mike Fritz and you could tell he was excited about all the new kits that Estes has coming out. I got the feeling that there is a bunch of new stuff on its way. He talked about new molds for plastic parts that is going to give them many new choices. And I believe a bunch more of the Pro Series kits will also be on their way. I won't mention specifics but, there will be things that everyone likes. I, for one, am looking forward to all of it. Lastly, the 4" Der Red Max is awesome. One set on the table (in the NARAM 54 photos) and I can't wait to get one. Hope this helps.

This thread has the photos on the first page: http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showthread.php?t=11400
