I've already got my balsa for the rebuild. I'm thinking this will have along career as the star of the show at B6-4 Field. A rocket that big will wow 'em in the neighborhood.

I went back and looked at the earliest time spots on the simulation. At 0.275 seconds, the model was 25' up and already 184 FPS (Mach 0.165). At 0.55 seconds, the model should have been 97' up and blowing through 337 FPS (Mach 0.3).

Running the C6-3 simulation, which we can say is a bit off, the maximum acceleration shown was 150 FPS. That should also be a tip-off as to about where the fins shredded.

It might be interesting to know if a simple paper skin (like Jay and I have been using) might have held the fins together longer...

Yeah, I might have made 80-100'.
Had things not blowed up as they did, something like that was in the plans. As a matter of fact, if I can get the new fins mounted, I might be able to fly it that way the next time. Given the name and the source of said name, it will be a fitting design scheme.

Well, I figured out how to isolate the individual frames of my movies, so here is the "disassembly" sequence of the Cosmik Debris. (Or the "Cosmik Debris debris".)
Enjoy. I didn't.

So, Bill, what'd you glue the fins on with? You can't be using that flour-and-water crap you used in pre-school

I wouldn't enjoy that either, but it doesn't look too bad. Just lost the fins Certainly better then a lawn dart with the whole tube messed up.

This time put some really cool fins on it.

No, I kept it true to form. It should fly at the next Quark launch and could have flown this past Sunday had I not been honey-do'd. It was a pretty easy fix.

Glad to hear it. The "easy fix" not the "honey-do'd". We all get enough of that.

I've been studying frames two, three, and four; and there's clearly a time difference between the loss of the first fin and the second. That first fin let loose in two major pieces, but I can't tell exactly where from the images. Somewhere in the middle, and not out near the tip pod. Same for the second fin in frame four. That indicates a lot of stress during ascent, for sure, as both the outer shear and the root edge shear have to be occurring at the same time.

Those last frames showing the model flipping around relative to the contrail are cool. Absolutely no stability at that point.

Do you have any images of the aftermath? Anything showing the pieces after they were recovered? I'd like to see the fins and how they came apart. For academic purposes, of course...
