Greenfield News and Hobby Closing! :(
I heard this rumor a few weeks back, but didn't want to believe it. The Milwaukee Journal now seems to confirm the bad news:
http://www.jsonline.com/business/gr...-288145821.html I've been visiting this store since I was barely tall enough to see the rocket kits at the old Cudahy store. This is really sad news.... Andy

It' always a sad thing when your hobby shop closes. The mom and pop hobby shops in my home area in Western Pennsylvania closed down in the early 80s. In spite of store like Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michael's etc. just having one or two shelves of models or rockets does not replace the hobby shop. Now that I live in the Twin Cities, I am blessed to have actual hobby shops in the area. My favorite one here is Hub Hobby Center with two locations. There also is Scale Model Supplies in St. Paul which specializes in long out of production kits (both plastic models and rockets) and we also have 3 Hobbytown USAs in the metro. Recently Hobby Lobby put a few stores in the metro as well. The hobby shops help me tolerate the cold winters here!

Wow.
Hate to see Mom-n-Pop hobby shops close. I still have a local one about 10 miles from my home, and 3 really good olde-tyme ones within 10 miles of my work. That number is less than half what it was 10 years ago in 2005 however. The ones that have stayed around had to get much more competitive on pricing than in the past. The ones that refused to change from a high margin (100%+) business model simply died.

Man, if a hobby shop that big, clean and well stocked can't make it, the trend's a lot worse than I thought. Last time the Fox Valley Rocketeers were there, the place was pretty busy. I would not have guessed that sales fell by a third.

I'd have to think the internet killed them as much as anything else, just can't compete with the prices.

Do you know if the Prop Shop in Centerline/Warren is still open? That was a required stop for me whenever I did a job in the Detroit area. A lot of great stuff on their shelves!

So...
...of perhaps limited interest to the majority of the forum readers, but of some importance to WOOSH members...
Where do we believe future monthly meetings of WOOSH will be held, now that Greenfield N&H is closing its doors?

Bobbye Hall's Hobby House (look it up).

In the February 2016 edition of Finescale Modeler, a letter was sent to the editor noting the closing of GN&H.
