Two New Kit offerings from Estes
There are two new kits shown on the Estes web site.
http://www.estesrockets.com/coming-soon/ Although NOT shown or recommended in the instructions the Estes SLV has been flown with a center E9-8 with 5 outer C6-0 motors. John Boren Last edited by JumpJet : 06-19-2015 at 04:42 PM. |

Very cool!
Of course they don't have to be C6-0. B6-0, A8-0. It should be easy to put a camera in that payload section.

Pretty nice. Those two appeal to me. I like the way Estes is picking it up.

Looks like the return of the 50J nose cone shape on the 'boosters'! Is it plastic or balsa?

Another cool design by John Boren.
The -50J nose cones are balsa, Roy. Here's the kit packaging.

That SLV is a very cool design, John.
Looks a bit like the old Enerjet Athena; is the tube big enough for a 29mm mount ?

The lower tube is a BT-55.

But the first question which occurred to me is, what size motors will fit in those five outboards?! Doug .

I like the SLV, and for reasons unknown, I have always liked the 50J nose cone. The fact that this kit has 5 of them is giving me good vibes.
I have the parts for a huge Trident upscale (~2.5X), still unbuilt. The original Trident had a 50J at the top of the motor tube. I had BMS make me an upscale 50J cone, but the shape was just not right. I sent them an Estes 50J, and Bill reprogrammed the shape. I went ahead and turned my own, but did get a replacement. Spot on. OK, tell me I'm not alone in having fixations on certain model rocket parts ... Re: 29mm motor in a BT-55: The thick-wall 29mm tubes are 1.21" OD, and a BT-55 is 1.283" ID. Nice fit.
