Yep, I recall several stores having these, around '97 or so, and at better prices than online at that time!

Also, they had *blister pak* six packs of motors, all the same type. Used to score C6-3s when available (which was not that often). And, those were like $9 each, making them an even better deal.

Haven't been in one of those places in a loooong time now, probably wouldn't recognize it.

Kay Bee Toys (see: http://www.google.com/search?source...1.0.0whvBzEknpw ) is planning to come back, which I first heard a news story about a few hours ago. They also want to stock their previous vendors' products as well as new ones. I bought model rocket supplies from one, which was well-stocked with kits, starter sets, and motors.

Kay-Bee Toys is the company that took over all the Circus World toy stores in all the malls.

I only learned of Circus World's previous existence last night, in one of the articles about Kay-Bee Toys (south Florida may not have been one of their regions).

IIRC, I bought up a bunch of clearance Cobra packaged motors from a mall K&B years ago. Seems like they were about a buck a pack. I can't remember if they were going out of business or just getting rid of rocketry items.

According to the Wikipedia article, they went out of business in 2009. The purchase I made from one of their south Florida (South Miami, if memory serves) stores was in the mid-1990s. At the time I bought several packs of motors, which were on sale, but it was a summer sale rather than a clearance sale.

I don't think it was as recent as 2009. If it was a going out of business sale, it was probably just for that particular mall store. Most likely the store was discontinuing rocketry products, or the newer non-cobra packaging motors were out and they were getting rid of old style stock. I just don't remember. I should, because I've only bought large bunches of clearance motors a few times. Pink packaged motors once, Cobra packaged motors once, and at Walmart a few times with their special retail packaging (wadding included, two motor packs, etc.).

I may never have seen the pink packaged motors (I had some of the old "three motors with wadding" packs, from Michael's Crafts and Wal-Mart). I vaguely recall Estes motors with artistic, multi-color ink, "multi-copy character" printing (of the motor designations printed on their casings) in the 1990s and 2000s; I don't know if those were of the Cobra style.

They had regular rocketry clearances since the late 80's. I've recently sold the last little bit of 80's rocket kits I was hoarding from a KayBee sale back in 1988. I wish I knew then what I've known for the past 15 years of eBay and had bought a lot more of it. There were lots of Centuri kits at the KayBee in Athens and I ignored them. I still have a LTV Scout I bought at a KayBee in Guelph, Ontario in 1991, though its torn bag disqualifies it from being much of a collectors item.
