Serious bump!

With the release of the E12, I went back and found this design and revised it slightly. I added a 1/8 oz ballast to the base of the NC to bring the stability up to 1.13 at the moment of ignition. The engine mount was originally intended for the short 24mm casings, but it already had a 5" engine tube. I slid the engine block forward 1" to accept the longer casing, and got the surprise of the day.

The E12-6 is the best performer overall, with 8 out of 8 simulation runs having a Dv of 5 FPS or less, and 6 out of 8 runs in the below 2 FPS ballpark. The two runs higher than 2 FPS deployed in the ascent, just ahead of apogee.

Simulation runs:
  • Run 1 -- 1485.19'......Dv 0.88 FPS
  • Run 2 -- 1484.49'......Dv 3.90 FPS
  • Run 3 -- 1485.06'......Dv 1.91 FPS
  • Run 4 -- 1485.19'......Dv 0.95 FPS
  • Run 5 -- 1485.12'......Dv 1.52 FPS
  • Run 6 -- 1485.15'......Dv 1.25 FPS
  • Run 7 -- 1485.19'......Dv 0.86 FPS
  • Run 8 -- 1484.02'......Dv 5.00 FPS

Enjoy!

It took a whole year to get to this point, and three days to work up the patterns, but I've finally got the CDR files for this design ready to post.

I cannot say these are 100% accurate, especially on the nacelles. Those nacelles are made from 5 pieces each, and the curved cut-outs around the conduit tubes may need some sanding or filling to get them just right. The nacelles also need to retain those fin slot fillers until after they're assembled, to keep them square.

The fins need to be attached and aligned first, then the nacelles are slid down over them. Fin alignment is critical.

Here are those PNG files separated. There are five of them, which is why I had to combine them into a single ZIP in the previous post.
