Default Estes Memorial Day sale?

I was on the road the whole holiday weekend and never thought to check. Did Estes have the holiday clearance as usual? If so, anything new?

Default No Estes sale, but...

Tower Hobbies, the retail arm of Hobbico, has deeply discounted a couple of interesting kits:

Cosmic Interceptor $19.60
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXCPVU&P=D

Asteroid Hunter $12.00

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXBVAK&P=D

And if your order is over $55.00, use code 011P1 to save $8.00.

I picked up a Cosmic Interceptor just for the parts!

Those three mini kits have been on a deep discount for weeks now, but no other holiday sales have shown up for a while.

It is interesting the Scion PSII kit is showing up in stock again.

I cleaned up a on a few of those Estes sales - kits to build or parts to use in clones. Either way, there were some smokin' deals.

Did I read here or on the Other Forum that Estes was blowing out excess inventory, hence those sales with psycho-neurotic prices? It was almost always the same kits on sale every time. (I now have tons of spare Phoenix Birds, Photon Probes, and Magnum Hornets.) That would support the blowout theory: Big Retailer orders an enormous amount of product, then backs out for some reason. Result: Estes has a lot of certain kits to dispose of.

Just a theory though, pure speculation. I have no insider information.

It certainly is the case that a number of models that were featured in the sales now are no longer available from Estes, consistent with inventory elimination.

The Scion is a very nice model.

NB: It suggests using BP F15-4. I don't think this is realistic.

Hm. Putting Estes's claimed weight (16.5 oz) and a 6' launch guide into thrustcurve.org, it comes up with end of launch guide speed of 33 ft/s... yeah, that's kind of slow!

I just finally gave in and ordered a Scion. I'll be using Ceseroni Fs and Gs in it, probably. Maybe an Aerotech SU. What are you flying yours on?
