*Assuming* the patent drawing is done to scale:
http://www.google.com/patents/US2841084

one could use this slot car chassis method to construct a dimensioned drawing:

I stopped by a hobby shop just to the north of the National Air Force Museum in Dayton and they had a big track where customers can get together to race. This stuff has come a long way from the Tyco set I enjoyed as a kid. For starters, it is not technically slot cars any more, in the same way that slot machines in Vegas are no more as there is no place to insert coins. Through the magic of digital technology, six drivers can race at the same time and cars are no longer stuck in its own lane.

Yeah, times have changed. Growing up in mid 60's every town had an American Raceways track, 8 lanes, Cox controllers, Stromberg cars ....good memories. When I was on R&R in Japan 1969 found a track there. I use a track(s) in Abbeville S.C. now. Sorry..got off subject.

The hobby - the fad - came and went fairly quickly. Seems like, within only 2 or 3 years, the interest peaked then waned. I remember seeing many times the 8-lane track at the hobby store at Dixie Manor in Louisville, but I don't think I ever saw a car on the track.

Lots of trends/fads seem to come and go quickly. But I will say, the modern equivalent to slot car racing, RC racing, seems to have held a steadily growing market for several years. There's a hobby store in Carrollton, Texas, which has two indoor tracks. I'm pretty sure they get a good crowd on a regular basis.

Doug

Off-topic, but: Actually, the "slot" in slot machines doesn't refer to the place you used to put in coins. It refers to multiple slots on each reel, into which mechanical arms used to snap to stop the spin. But that, too, is just as gone as the coin-in slot.

I have a small casche of the original pnc 40 nose cones. Was wondering if the pnc 40 F is the cone in question here? It does fit on top of the tube, but looks a little short? dannymrmissile.

The original Mark 1 NC was made of cardboard/tagboard(I think). The 40 F was actually a fireworks NC from the Estes fireworks line. Carl would probably know.
