Default Looking For Info on MRN Vol 6 No 2

I would appreciate it if you guys that have a copy of Model Rocket News Vol 6 No 2 could pass on some info to me. On page 11 is a rocket plan for the Flying Why. My question is this.............is the plan in your copy of this MRN for the single rear engine Flying Why, or is it the front two engine version? Thanks for your help.

Mine is for the rear engine - didn't know there was a 2 engine version.

BTW: The plans arrived today - thanks!

Hi Sean. Thanks for your input. The single, rear-mounted engine version was a redesign by Estes. The original, by John P. Childs, employed two engines mounted in the forward pods. Evidently Estes considered the original design to be unsafe due to the wide spacing of these forward engines from the centreline. But Estes did, in fact, publish the early design, and I have a copy of it. Since the Flying Why was featured in MRN Vol 6 No 2, I was wondering whether the original design ever made it into that publication.

As a followup to my previous post, I'll attempt to attach photos of:

1) the original Flying Why as designed by John P. Childs (published by Estes, note launch photo).

2) the redesign by Estes, with red print warning at top of page (note launch photo).

3) the redesign as published in MRN Vol 6 No 2. Same launch photo as in 2) but the red print warning was omitted.

I get a kick out of digging up old variations of Estes printed material, in case you hadn't guessed already.

Sure, Scott! I'll get to it shortly. Should I email them to you or just post them to this thread?

Email them to me please. I don't have unlimited space for the forum database. Thanks.

Wow! If, judging from the response to my request for info, there really are so few of you BAR's with a Model Rocket News collection, all I can say is you guys don't know (or have forgotten) what you are missing.

I had all of them from the Best of Vol 1&2 up thru '74 or 5. I suspect my mom
threw them out in a fit of spring cleaning one year, tho she won't fees up to it.

I have collected from issue 4, No. 3 on over the last or 6 years so I still need the earlier
issues, but I'm working on it .
