I remember when I was a kid in the 60's, the X-15 came to the Astrodome parking lot. I remember that they had it on a flatbed trailer or something like it. I don't remember much about that other than I think it was a cold, gray day. I'll have to ask my parents if they remember when that was.

Last year when we were visiting the nation's capital, we stopped by the NASM and I saw the X-15 again. I think the other one is at Wright-Patterson, at least it was in 1976.

A really good book on the subject is Hypersonic: The Story of the North American X-15. Lot's of pictures and documentation on the X-15's history. A great coffee table book.

Truly a remarkable and noteworthy flying machine! I didn't realize it was already 50 years!

I've Never seen the real one, probably never will, only a mock up , but that hasn't stopped me from building a few models of it in days gone by, or (maybe-I won't tell till ready for public release) working on a flying paper version of the A2, with the dummy scram jet.

Thanks for the posting!

Eric

Default Reaction Motors povided the motors for the X-15

At some point, I will give you some history about Reaction Motors Inc. (RMI) and their contribution to the X-15 and the Bell X-1.

RMI started out in Pompton Lakes NJ, about `5 minutes from where I use to live. I have visited all of the former sites of RMI.
More later.
