Exclamation Revised Design -- Cherokee DD Mk VII

As discussed on the VENDORS thread, Estes has received certification for the E12 BP engine. This is a 24mm x 3.75" engine, with 0-, 4-, 6-, and 8-second delays. I thought it might be a good idea to wake this sleeping dog back up and see how it would perform with this new engine.

Look HERE for a copy of the RockSim engine file to the E12.

The following changes have been made:
  • Length of the booster body tube is increased to 4.5"...
  • Length of the booster engine tube is increased to 4.0"...
  • The forward booster centering ring moved forward to 2.75" from the rear edge of the engine tube...
  • The engine tube extends 0.25" rearward from the booster body...
  • The launch lugs have been increased to 1/4" diameter...
  • The launch lugs are 1" long, and the forward lug is moved 2" rearward (10" from the rear edge)...
  • The parachutes are now 18" nylon from SEMROC...

Length: 32.15"
Diameter: 1.32" (BT-55)
Fin Span: 6.24"
Weight: 6.29 oz (including 3 oz for BoosterVision package)

Stability margin is 4.46 with the E12-0/E12-8 stack.

E12-0/D12-7......2127'......Dv 31 FPS......Requires 43" of 60" x 1/4" rod
D12-0/E12-8......2225'......Dv 8 FPS.......Requires 47" of 60" x 1/4" rod
E12-0/E12-8......2709'......Dv 16 FPS......Requires 45" of 60" x 1/4" rod

All simulations depict the deployment to occur in the ASCENT phase, within 5' of apogee.

There is room on the decal sheet to add a whole bunch of Double E's!

So I added them for any future order.

Great! Now it can be called the "Cherokee Double-Eagle"...

I had to crowd things a bit but I found room for two "Double Eagle" decals too.

Nothing like making the most of the paper eh.

I see a good winter build ahead, along with a few other birds to light up some E12's.

Just in time to replace my Cherokee DD. It's got a lot of road rash from landing on pavement. Thanks Craig!

One important note about an E12/E9 stack.

My TARC team leaned the hard way that the E9 motor's small nozzle makes 2nd stage ignition difficult.

You have to kind of "clean out" the nozzle on the E9 to get reliable 2nd stage ignition but it should go like stink!

I just ran a simulation. Use only the E9-8.

E12-0/E9-8......2695'......Dv 19 FPS......Needs 45" of 48" or 60" x 1/4" rod
