This one just closed out on eBay tonight:

Earlier boxed version but not the earliest version. Final price was $561.

A fellow in Europe bought a Pershing kit of some sort about a month ago for over $700.00 from an auction belonging to a member of TRF, so no - no record.

No, I was wondering if the $561 was a record for the Saturn 1b kit in particular.

I'm pretty sure that $561 was a record price for that kit. Nice kit for sure, but I have the earlier Uprated 1-B with the outer box in great shape, all bags sealed, fantastic early checkerboards with the stylized spaceship centre, and the original shredded newspaper packing material all in mint condition. Didn't think it was worth that much.

Thought about piecing together the shredded scraps of the Denver Post to see what was going on out there back in 1967 or so, but haven't gotten around to it yet..........

Default Another High Price

Here are a few more that just ended.....each kit looked to be mint and were all Estes kits, probably dating back to shortly after the Damon acquisition.

$315.96 for Astron Skyhook

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Est...73#ht_500wt_948

$388.33 for Astron Mark

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Est...ue#ht_500wt_948

$316.99 for Astron Birdie

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Est...ue#ht_500wt_948

That seller just racked up over $1000 for those three kits......

The seller is James Gartrell's heir(s) (son? grandson?). As depressing as it is to see such a fine rocketeer and person passing too young, I'm glad at least his collection is going for nice money as opposed to getting picked over by vultures at yard sale pricing.

Yes, having foliowed a number of the heir's listings (and their listing info that they were selling parts of their grandfather's collection to help support their grandmother.....a very worthy endeavor) I was happy to see the numbers the Saturn brought in.

I didn't know James however. Was he a local club member?

He was with DARS in Texas. You can still find reviews of his over on EMRR and in the DARS archives. A true gentleman.

That price is insane and outrageous.
I thought I was insane for bidding I think $275.00 on that one and felt that was a totally NUTS bid but wanted it.
