Sci-fi fun with some spare parts....
So I was rummaging through the spare parts bin, trying to think up something to use up all these surplus A8-3 engines I have lying around? Why not some sort of cluster?. A couple of bulk kit Alpha body tubes, an extra Estes Nemesis fin sheet, and a few different kinds of nose cones and I have this little concotion;
With an Estes Screaming Eagle cone and PNC-50Y cone on the other side; Here's the aft view; With the Alpha cone on the other side; Both ways with the original Nemesis cone; ..and here's with a "double bubble" from an Estes Alien Invader on the other side; Still wondering if the two different length cones one either side would really mess up the flight profile. Swing-tests nice either way.... Which version do you like? Later, EV Last edited by EchoVictor : 10-31-2010 at 09:00 PM. |

I like it with the much shorter Alpha cone on the other side. It seems like it would give better visibility to the pilot that way.

I prefer the version with only one cockpit also. That way if the tiny pilot was very drunk, he (or she) wouldn't get confused as to which cockpit to get into. Unless of course the tiny, drunk pilot could operate the spacecraft equally as drunkenly(?) from EITHER cockpit. Of course, if the tiny drunken pilot was drunk in the first place, then he (or she) probably would be too drunk to fly the spacecraft in the first place and would probably get into serious trouble if he (or she) attempted to operate the spacecraft.

I like the one-cockpit style, I just can't decide whether the 50K or 50Y version looks better. I'm leaning toward the 50Y...

Two
I prefer a two cockpit style.
One for the pilot (Maverick)and one for the RIO(Goose) |

I had to look up F-82. It's cool! I wonder if any still exist.

Several F-82s exist (well three or four) but none flyable. The Commerative/Confederate Air Force wrecked the last flyable one about 15 years ago. Hard to find parts for the fancy Allison engines in the later models.

So, how come in one picture the starboard side vertical stabilizer is at about 80 degrees and in other pictures it's at about 5 to 10 degrees? I am confused. Did you break it off and re-glue it? Am I the only one who noticed this?
I think it's a really cool design though, I just hope that it flies straight with two motors. you might need to put less thrust in the port side motor mount if you use the smaller nose because it might push the craft in a loop if it has less drag. COOOOOOL ROCKET!!!!!!!!!!! Quote:

^ just a trick of perspective. Both the upper tail fins are 30 degrees from vertical.
