Default Aurora Plastics Corp Rocket Fuel - what is it?!

Hi All,

I'm trying to identify this "Aurora Plastics Corp. Rocket Fuel" -

Click to embiggen

The ebay auction simply stated "Each box contains 2 packs of Mark III Interceptor Missile Concentrated Liquid Fuel and 1 pack of Mark III Interceptor Missile Reactor Pellets. These are old stock from Aurora, probably from the 1960's. These are still sealed."

From what I have been able to work out, the 'Concentrated Liquid Fuel' powder forms an acid and the 'Reactor Pellets' are an alkali - the reaction is much like vinegar and sodium bicarbonate.

I've googled all I can and haven't been able to find anything more about what rocket this was used in. Aurora Plastics did produce models but more along the lines of novelty stuff more than rockets.

I'm hoping that someone has seen these before and has an idea of what rocket they may have been used with.

Cheers,
Sascha.

Here is a Worthpoint entry with a photograph from an eBay listing.

Super Thank you!

And three more -

It looks like the 'fuel' is poured into the bottom of the rocket and plugged. There's a string to launch it remotely.

I was thinking the .59 on the end of the box was a price - but appears that it could be the year.

Cheers,
Sascha.

I had one of those rockets, or a slightly later version, circa 1968.

The "fuel" came in a little drum (similar to a small talcum powder dispenser), the "oxidizer" in a bag.

For whatever reason, possibly being unable to figure out the directions, I never flew it.

I remember seeing replacement fuel in Woolworth's.

One of the components is Sodium Bicarbonate and the other is plain old Alum.
I think the Alum is dissolved in the water and the pellets are pressed Sodium Bicarb.

Not only can you fly rockets with the propellant, you can take care of acid indigestion and those pesky shaving nicks too.

I would still rather have the HyperGOLICS TEB-TEA for HOME use !!!

I can remember the days when you could actually head down to a local independent pharmacy and buy goodies like Powdered Zinc, Concentrated Fuming Nitric Acid, Potassium Permanganate, Potassium Chlorate, Red and YELLOW Phosphorus, Sodium Metal, Powdered Sulfur, Micronized Charcoal, Potassium Perchlorate, High % Hydrogen Peroxide, Powdered Magnesium, Sodium Peroxide, etc.

Persons purchasing said goods were left alone to use them as they saw fit as long as not for criminal purposes....no BATFE buttin their snoots in when a farmer wanted to blow a stump with ANFO. Heck, back when my dad was a kid you could just go to the local hardware and sign for dynamite and blastin' caps...no joke.

That would sure help out the local meth lab guys around here.

The idiotic was on drugs is unwinnable from an idiotic supply-side law-enFARCEment approach. Total waste of tax $$$ that I'm sick of.
Spend the money on DEMAND reduction and decriminalize it. Stop wasting money on jackassed law enfarcement agencies that love the seizure laws that allow them to perpetuate themselves all the while doing virtually nothing worthwhile for the average joe.
Quite frankly, I don't think the gubmint should have ANY business making ANY laws regarding what one is allowed to ingest into ones OWN body. That should be up to EACH INDIVIDUAL with the regulation by NO PERSON or ENTITY other than themselves.
