Default Centuri U.S.S. America

This project has been in the works for years. I cut the fins out around 2003, but couldn't find a cone I liked well enough to go forward with the project. That all changed when Mike Schmidt of Moldin' Oldies sent me the cone in return for letting him borrow a couple of my vintage cones. Construction restarted, then restopped when I couldn't get the pod cones to work to my satisfaction. Construction finally restarted for good when I bought the tubes and pod cones from Semroc and finished construction. I did the final sanding today, and I plan to do the first coat of primer tomorrow, then painting throughout the week. I printed the decals from Kurt's Decal Page, and they're coated and ready to go. It will be E9-4 powered and hopefully fly this coming Saturday.

Don't you think you'd want to start with a C11-3 for a photo op and get it back alive before going E9? I think I'd also fly it on a D12 before the E9 to make sure it doesn't arc with extended thrust times. Then again, a good power prang is fun to watch.

Who are you, GH all of a sudden?
Actually that's not a bad idea. I've got a review half written so a good C11-3, D12-3, E9-4 progression might be better for the review. And the power prang wouldn't break my heart all that much. The tube I selected those many years ago has swelled along the tube spirals, likely from extended time in the cold of the rocket lab. Sure has been a long time between start and finish, though.

You think I'd watch 500 miles of left turns if there were no crashes? Ok, I wouldn't even do that, but I will watch the crash highlights.

Great job! Can't wait to see it with paint and decals. I had one of these as a kid and remember it being rather hefty, so 24mm is a good modification. A C11 sounds like a pretty good suggestion from tbzep for a first flight.

Very nice build. I've done an upscale of that model. It will get a lot of attention at any launch event you take it to.

Don't be a wimp. Go for the Uber-powr thrust E9 first.
A nice Powr-Prangg with Trash Bag-An'-Broom recovery is always delightful.

Honestly though, this sounds like a candidate to wait for the new E12, or better yet a composite E15.
