Estes motor problem?
I have used hudreds of Estes engines and almost never had a problem. Over the last few months, I have had several ejection failures from Estes engines. One didn't even break thruough the clay plug. Several were just weak and complete deployment did not occur. Has anyone else had this problem? (I have just joined this forum).

There were problems many years ago during the years with manufacturing year code A, B, C and maybe D. This was when the date code used a letter for the year. Current production motors use a leading letter for the casing manufacturer and this is followed by the actual date in numbers. You must provide us with more information, such as the complete date or manufacturing code on the problem motors. AND, you must report all motor failures to the NAR with their online M.E.S.S. form and also inform Estes. Estes will replace the rocket and motors.

What Fred meant to say was, "Please".
Seriously, it really helps the rest of us to see what codes are on any motor failure. I was the first Malfunctioning Engine Statistical Survey chair way back in the ancient days of 1970. I was one of the Ohio State students helping Dr. Gregorek with Standards & Testing. The MESS report was started to give the NAR some leverage with the maufacturers if there was a systemic problem with a batch or a design of a motor (see Estes D13 or MPC B3m's minijets). I keep a list at my work area of reported motor codes as I have a couple of hundred BP motors in my stache. So, it does help to give the rest of us a little extra info for safety reasons. Thanks in advance. Chas

I kept the one that did not penetrate the clay plug and immediately reported this to Estes on their website. The number on this one is AO62811. It was a C6-5 from a box of 24. I'll fill out the NAR form. I had two launches two weeks ago that popped the nose off but no chute deployment. Two C6-5s from a different box 24. The motors in that box are AO402128. I've also noticed on several successful flights, that the clay plug is not completely blown out like I've always seen in the past. About a half to two thirds of the clay plug is still intact. Thanks.

Jay, you are correct, Sir. Meant Stash. To think my daughter is an English Lit teacher, too.

i suspect a typo. The letter is followed by all numbers and no other letters, so the "O" is most likely a "0" (zero). letter MM DD YY AO62811 is actually A062811 which is casing "A" made on June 28, 2011.
