I've heard this now for the SECOND time, so I'll take you guys at your word, but I have to say, that has NOT been my experience with wallyworld paint AT ALL.

Course, the stuff I'm using I've had awhile, so maybe yall have a new batch and they've changed the formula and turned it into crap... wouldn't be the first time (Krylon is probably the best example of this).

Curious...

I gave the Wally World paint a try several years ago. I didn't like it, so I let my son use it to paint some stars that were on the walls in the house when we moved in. That didn't work either. I think we still have the remains of that can on top of the fridge in my shop. Fool me once......

Amen to that. What the HELL happened to Krylon?

The stuff reminds me of the new "crappy"/runny Krylon. Not worth a bucket of warm chawin' terbaccy SPITTOR juice ! I have 40 year old spray cans of Pactra 'namel that dry far quicker.

I've never tried it, but have heard lots of negative comments.

Frankly, I have never been inclined to try it because I hated the old Krylon so much! It was a hot enamel and would often blush badly in the Texas humidity, so I cussed it more than a few times then about gave up on it. Although there are a few days a year here when it will come out shiny, they are not so easy to predict unless you're a meteorologist.

That said, most other hot enamels and lacquers have similar blushing issues. While I swear by RustOleum, their Painter's Touch line will blush easily, too. So I can't come down too hard on Krylon without condemning these others as well.

Still, I had enough of the dull, unshiny Krylon results that it became my poster child for bad paint.

I think what people like about it so much is that it's dry to the touch in a short time and can be handled fairly soon after painting. But I'll take the slow-drying, very-shiny finish of RustOleum Premium over quick-drying any day.

Doug- you would REALLY hate to finish with Dope then.
It dries ULTRA fast...must be applied in several thin coats to build up an opaque base, then you can hose it down thick on about the 5th coat, but it MUST be done with 50% or less humidity unless you mix in 'retarder' or it WILL 'blush'. If one cannot find dope/lacquer 'retarder' from Brodak, DuPont, etc. in your area, adding straight Xylene or Toluene to the paint will slow the dry time.

While I've worked with dope several times, I've rarely tried to get a finish out of it. That is, I've used it to apply tissue, or maybe as a primer, but not as a finish, so I've not really cared.

But I do have a project I plan to finish in dope (one of these days) so I'll keep an eye on the dew point when I get ready to paint.
