Yes, you read that right...

A bedspread ruined my paint job.

Yesterday, in the AM, I painted the back portion of the nosecone with the recommended Krylon Mandarin Orange. I thought it looked rather nice. I had sanded out all of the seams, smoothed the surface with 320, 400, 600 grit sandpaper, and gave it a polish with toothpaste (for those minty fresh flights). I had even removed the raised panel lines (e.g. the one that separated the forward portion of the radome from the rest of the nosecone) and replaced them with nicely cut engraved panel lines.

Paint went on fine, and I let the thing dry overnight. This morning I felt it, and if felt dry to the touch, but I had to run, so I left it sitting on my bed (temps in my room never got above 77F today). I get home in the afternoon, and pick it up, and it stuck to the bedspread.

No paint transferred to the fabric, but you could almost see the weave of the cloth in the paint.

Fortunately for me, I have some paint thinner, so I managed to strip the paint off of the nosecone. By that time, though, it was too late to try to paint tonight.

Anybody know how long it takes Krylon's paint and primer SH** to dry enough that it won't be ruined by a feather bed?

That is why I buy the cheap stuff. I haven't found any of these new paints to be worth having!

It's called learning the hard way. Just about every paint I've ever used, rattle can ot airbrush, will do this when the paint is new. New, as in the last month, even. You can't put any weight-bearing force against really new paint. A mark will always be made and left behind.
Wetsand it with 400 or 600.
And, just so you know, toothpaste is unnecessary with a proper gloss finish.

Next time, put the rocket on some sort stand, or stick a rod in the BT and hang it sideways.
Always do this.
Heck, I knocked over my Sirius Diemos last night and chipped the paint on a fin.
My dog was even embarrassed at my language after that!

Dope/Lacquer will not do this due to how fast it dries.

Neither will Acrylic (use either Tamiya or Createx airbrush acrylic - the pigment in everything else is too large grained).
