Those are for full power letter class motors with a medium thrust (F20, G30), except the G is a 62g one with ISP 200.

OpenRocket does not have a field for Total Impulse and the motor names do not have an ILP format (45F15J). If you run the rocket on older AT SU 24mm Full F such as the F44 or G such as the G70 (whatever it was), the performance will be "fairly good".

Jerry

PS. With AT re-releasing the I65, I suggest the USR Interroc (#1012) rocket.
http://v-serv.com/usr/kits/interroc.htm
Or the Sonic 3100-54mm (#1072)
http://v-serv.com/usr/kits/sonic3100.htm
CTI has a 24mm 6G case.

Jerry,

Thanks. Those altitudes were hiding in plain sight. I guess I could have checked that page I referenced all the specs on before purchasing the kit .....

Appreciate the link to the CAR motor index. I'll need to check out some of the other 24mm offerings.

Default Sonic 160

Started the build Monday night and finished the construction Tuesday night. In a hurry to get it finished for this coming weekend I left all the internal stuff out to be installed tomorrow so I could at least get primer and paint on it.

Our winter season opens at the field in Winnsboro, LA field Saturday. It can dry all day in the garage and tomorrow night I'll use 5min. epoxy to attach the payload coupler, shock cord mount and get it finished to fly Saturday morning.

Certainly not my best finish work and caught one run being heavy handed with the fluorescent orange paint this afternoon but at least it's painted. Nose cone came pre-weighted. I'll need to mark CP, load those two engines and see if any nose weight needs to be added. I may add some black self adhesive monokote to the fins and the USR kit decals but I'm also trying to finish a couple of other models tomorrow to fly so it may fly just like you see it here.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words .....

Default Sonic 160 OpenRocket File and Screen Print

OpenRocket estimates an altitude of 4,854 feet with 3.24 cal stability using the F15-0/F15-8 combo.

I will actually load the motors after the innards are bonded in place and do a final check on CG/CP tomorrow night.

OpenRocket file attached for anyone that wants to run some sims and play with it.

That came out looking pretty good!

You can get fancy with the decals if it comes back.

I hope you can get flight pictures.

Default Sonic 160 First Flight 10-12-13 Winnsboro, LA

Saturday it was mostly cloudy for most of the morning but by early afternoon there were short breaks of sunshine here and there but still plenty of cloud cover. It was my last flight of the day and I enlisted a few eyes as spotters for the booster and to track the sustainer. I drove 3-1/2 hours to fly and I certainly wasn't going home without trying out a staged flight with the new Estes F engines.

First the wife shot three dumb rocket photos while I was at the pad with the Sonic 160 for the F15-0/F15-8 flight.

We did a run of (AMR) Two The Limit kits this week. These are direct staged models 2 stage 29mm with a length of about 65", diameter 2.25". It was originally designed to be within the old one pound liftoff mass and maximum model rocket motors of F. Now with G's it can be flown with 50% more power.

It's also perfect for the new Estes 29mm E16 and F15. Use a medium delay on top.

Just prior to the Sonic 160 flight I had used the starters and the starter plugs on the Ascender, Majestic and SR1720 rockets and I was very pleased with the instantaneous ignition of those engines so I loaded up and retained the F15-0 with a starter and plug using a wrap of masking tape tape around the aft booster airframe to hold the engine in place. It took a little over one wrap of tape around the F15-8 nozzle end where it acts as a coupler into the booster airframe and I made real sure it was a very snug fit into the sustainer airframe figuring if it ejected it would almost certainly drift out of our large field area even with a streamer for recovery.

I enlisted two of the youths to assist with recovery and one promised to track the booster, the other the sustainer. These are the pics I took of the launch. I have a new camera so I set for shutter priority with exposure time of 1/2500 seconds using ISO400 with high speed continuous shooting to see what I could catch. At seven frames per second, these are the pictures I got not really knowing what to expect the first time out with my camera.

This motor combo was perfect for this model. After the last shot when the model left the rod I looked up from the viewfinder to watch the rest of the boosters 3.45 sec burn time and saw that it staged perfectly with a pop as booster started coming in tumbling, accelerating as the sustainer lit and it climbed on the F15-8. I could no longer see the model only a thin stream of smoke as it coasted for what seemed like forever and then another faint pop knowing the ejection charge had blown. No sign of the sustainer and kept scanning the horizon to see if I could possibly spot it coming in on streamer. I stood there a while until I realized range was clear and others were waiting for the 1/4" rod so I walked back to the car after one of the youths handed me the booster figuring at least I got that back.
