That was a great story, Bill. You must've had a great father, and I am sorry for your loss. My father died just last September, and I am still hurting from that. I think I know what you are going through. Hang in there...

Why I've posted little untill recently
Bill,
I understand... My Dad died late January. My 2 sisters and I have been handling his estate ever since. I have just started to relax yesterday. My mother taught us manners, proper behavior, etc. He taught me to ride a bicycle, drive a car, to hunt, shoot, fish, ride a motorcycle, etc. He is sorely missed... Bob p.s. didn't mean to 'jack the thread.

Thanks, guys. I'm sitting here going through my photo scans for the boards for the funeral home. Don't consider this a thread about my Dad only. If you've got a story, I'd love to hear it. Things aren't great at the moment, but they've been a lot worse. We had everyone over last night for a cookout and I got lectured on the birds in my backyard by my ten year old nephew, then we played in the mud that was made by the pump that was clearing the water from the pool cover. Not bad for a Thursday.

Understood. My last blood relative (my Aunt) passed away last week. Funny, but you never stop missing them. You just do it less as time goes on. The only problem is when you do remember to miss them (down the road), you feel it more intensely and have guilty feelings, because, you do it less. They never go away. Nor would you want them to. Peace to you and yours. It took me a good long while to be able to mourn the passing of my Father. I don't know why. Perhaps because I had been bracing for it for so long. When it did finally hit me—it was like a ton of bricks. Now, I have habits and tastes that I have never had before and it has occured to me that these new traits are an inheritance from my Father. I had always believed that we didn't have a lot in common. Turns out—we have most everything in common. I find myself doing and creating things, participating in certain activities, that I wish I could share with him. We'll just have to catch-up at a later date.

Bill,
I lost my dad 40 years ago when he was 69 years old. He was and remains the greatest influence on my life and your story brings up a lot of memories both good and bad. I cannot look at his picture today even after all these years without tears forming. Now I'm at the same age my father was when he passed away. I thank God for the brief time I had with my father, which is something that far too many sons do not experience today. But I will always miss him. May God bless and keep you, Ted Macklin |

A story...
Quote:
Here's one, Christmas 1964, My sister and I got Daisy B.B. Guns She was 6 and I 4. He set up 2 boxes of old newspapers and official DBBG targets. Our intro to shooting. At age 5 I had a tonsillectomy. I woke up the next day in the hospital bed with a Sheridan .177 air rifle next to me - try that now At age 9 I got my first firearm; an Ithaca Youth Model 66 single shot 20 guage shot gun. 2-3 deer, and many dove and squirrels were collected... Bob p.s. I still have the Daisy and the 66. The Sheridan was worn out many years ago

Bill -
The Lord's grace and presence with you and your the coming days. I fortunately have not yet walked this path, but my mom and her severe dementia....well, we cherish the days we have because we never really know which will be the last. My parents divorced some 29 years and and dad is 76 now with cardiac issues, but is still very active with his life and and wife in the Marietta area. I still love them both. Prayers and blessings to your family. Hang in there. Earl

My sympathies.
We lost Mom almost seven years ago. The pain has faded to a dull ache, but it still hurts. Focus on the good memories. Bill

Just saw this, my condolences Bill. Lost my Dad almost six years ago and still brings the occasional tear to my eyes. The pain lessons with time, but remembering the fun we had just his spirit alive.
Mike
