Hey Estes -
Why not make the Mercury Capsule available separately?
Centuri did and it came in handy for a replacement.
Those towers only last for a few hard landings.

I'd buy an extra just in case and another for a Mercury Little Joe.

While you are at it, I would like one with an Atlas booster...

Actually, that would make sense for the company. Most kids today are so use to insatnt everything and can't wait 3 seconds for CA to harden. Adapating to the skill set of their main market shows they aren't stupid.

Ditto! I could use an extra one myself, maybe two.

Oh God I hope they are decals and not 'stickies'

Either way, it's nice to see the MR coming back!

....and waterslide decals, too! PINCH ME!!

The instructions attached to the item detail are the 1921 version with four part balsa and ply fins. Not sure if this is how it will release and the 1921 instructions are simply a placeholder, but it is a true blue 1921 - and the bottom just fell out of the Ebay MR market for builders.

They got the capsule, they got the tubes, they got a big laser cutter. LJ1 is hardly a stretch.

I notice in the .pdf of the Estes 1921 instructions it says to use a C5-3 engine only and does NOT list the C6-3 as acceptable.
Why ?
Because it flies like POOP on a C6-3 just like the Estes 1284 Space Shuttle and K-47 Mars Lander, two other rockets that CAN fly on a C6-3 but fly SO much BETTER on a C5-3 with the high initial thrust spike.

If I only have C6-3's on hand, my Mars Lander stays grounded.
It ONLY flies on discontinued C5-3's, LONG discontinued Cox D8-3's (PERFECT 18mm motor for the 3 listed above rockets) or Aerotech D10/D21 SU AP 18mm motors.

My first Estes 1284 Space Shuttle was built in 1979; EVERY flight on a C6-3 before the C5-3 came out resulted in an arcing/veering trajectory due to low thrust/high drag/high weight. The C5-3 corrected ALL of that.

Quite frankly, I think it is absolute garbage that Estes continues to produce the C6-3 instead of the C5-3.
The C5-3 is only a SEMI-port burner that can be produced with a pintle in the press operation, just like the A10-3T uses. It would not have to be actually drilled like the old B14.
There is absolutely NOTHING the C5-3 and C5-0 don't do better than the C6-3 and C6-0.
Same for the B8 series that replaced the B14.
There also is NO reason for the B4 and B6 line to simultaneously exist.
The B8 (in 3, 5, 7, and 0 flavors instead of 2, 4, 6, 0) should replace the B6 completely.
A lineup of B4-2,4,6 and B8-3,5,7,0 is far more useful than B4-2, 4 and B6-2,4,6,0.
I know some 'traditionalists' would cringe at the loss of the B6-4, but what would it really be useful for if we had the B4-4 and B8-3/B8-5 ?

Estes needs to use some SENSE in their 18mm lineup.

"historical plastic parts set"

Not to be snippy, but does this mean that the capsule molds have not been refurbished for the production shots? So a Liberty Bell 7 with a porthole?
