Bill, your 'dodging the priest' act is a riot.

I as well as one of my buddies got sent to see the 'head nun'/'mother superior' during 'Catechism' class in the 5th grade for shooting 'spit wads' through straws at the snotty girls in the class.
My buddy and I 'ditched' going to see 'mother superior' and went to the neighborhood arcade instead for 2 hours.
Nobody was the wiser the next week during that weekly evening 2.5 hour class.
That was the last week my buddy and I attended; we ditched the next 6 weeks to attend "the arcade" and our parents never found out amazingly.
To this day, I never told my parents or brother about that. I think my Dad would get a good laugh out of that; he grudgingly let my Mom force us to go to those classes.
It cured me from getting any value out of attending Mass on a weekly basis.
Generally I attend Mass about twice a year; weddings and funerals.

Funny that I just told my Mom the story at dinner tonight. She had no idea. She's not high on the old parish anyway, so she got a kick out of it. Dad was the same way. He had the same interest in religion that I have now. Zilch. I actually had to go to CCD (Catechism) in high school. Biggest ever waste of an hour on a Monday night. More useless than Dad's penmanship classes.

Cutting Catechism class and making a beeline to the arcade must be a S.O.P.! My wife did the same thing (she's 100% Italian and therefore was raised Catholic.) She'd sneak out and play pinball during the class.

A friend and I both got kicked out of CCD for asking questions like "Just how did Mary get pregnant?" and "How did the big guy walk on water or rise from the dead?" We were young and foolish teenagers. My mother beat the snot out of me and I had to go back to the next session and was told to keep my mouth shut!.
