Ha. I ALWAYS do that... it drives me nuts if I find one not completely filled.

I taught the kids I had in 4-H to finish rockets that way, and one year one of them told me the judge looked at the rocket and asked if it was plastic. It was so smooth... and he did round the fin edges, but it was a performance model. Heck, I almost always round the edges on rockets built for performance. I just don't see the point on this rocket.

Wow!
Anybody criticizing your builds has never been to your website.
Sometimes I build with rounded fins, air foiled or squared.
Depends on the model and my mood.

Build it the way you want!
But I don't have to tell you that.

I view this post by Solomoriah as a "work in progress". Sort of like the bathroom remodel underway in my son's house. I think I'll hold off on my critique until it's finished.

Wow, no pressure, eh?

I won't be rounding the fins on the Space Ship One. If I had been so inclined, GH effectively ordering me to would have ended that plan.

There's TWO ways to build; MY WAY, and then the other WRONG WAY.

Just Kidding.
Actually it looks like a great build.
Hope to hear it flies well.

Oh my.

He actually did chill.

I need to get some better primer before I finish this one. I'm down to my red oxide first-coat stuff, and all the Rustoleum has run out so it's just the cheap stuff I've received as gifts.

When I have it, I put a coat of red oxide primer on first, then prime and sand with gray. The rule is that you shouldn't sand through the last coat of primer... which of course means if you sand through the primer it's not your last coat. The red oxide acts as signal that I should stop sanding.

I prime most often with dark grey rustoleum with white rustoleum primer on top if I use spray-bombs.
Otherwise I use DuPont dark grey/light grey automotive Lacquer primer from a spray gun.

I'd probably use lacquer if I had a spray gun.

I like the Rustoleum Filler Primer in gray for most of my priming; they also have it in red oxide, so it's good all around for me. I've used the white, but they don't have it in the filler primer style so I mostly don't use it anymore.

With rockets that have fiber fins (or fibre, as Centuri spelled it), the "edges issue" isn't an issue at all... (Being only 0.050" thick [if I'm recalling Semroc's figure correctly], leaving fiber fins' edges square isn't a big deal, although I suppose they -could- be rounded or sharpened after first letting thin CA glue soak into the edges and cure, but that might cause the edges to expand and thicken--I've never tried it myself.)
