Default RIDICULOUS Cattle Auction TV program

I thought I had seen it all....

The "Family Net" channel 154 on Charter Cable now has CATTLE AUCTIONS on every afternoon from 2 to 5 pm.

What a totally ridiculous YAY-HOO waste of airtime in ANY state other than Texas, Oklahoma, and possibly Florida.
This is even too STOOPYD for the RFD channel !
This at a MAXIMUM should be offered on a NON-national channel only in LOCAL markets with large ranchin' populations.

I'd rather watch a progrum on Cattle BRANDIN' than this useless nonsense.
Naturally all the auctioneers sound like YAY-HOOS with a double-load of Red-Man Chaw in their mouth.

I know cattle are a highly needed commodity, but a NATIONALLY carried auction every day ??
Let's be real now.

Lotta money changin' hands...

Guess someone's getting enough of it to put it on TV...

Online and TV auctions are getting to be BIG business because you can sell to a MUCH wider audience and of course buyers can select from a MUCH wider group of sellers...

It's still mostly high-end stuff though... registered breeding stock and such. Most of the "regular cattle" destined for the nearest "Happy Meal" are heading to the local auction ring... which won't be televised...

Don't be hatin' on RFD-TV either... They brought back "Hee-Haw" in all it's classic glory... They're doin' alright!!!

Hee-Haw is just one MORE reason to HATE RFD.
The ONLY decent progrum EVER on that channel is the 'model railroading' one.

Those stupid cattle auctions all have PRE-branded cattle !
They even CHEET YA out of the pleasure of givin' the herd a decent BRANDIN' !

WRONG-O, Bukkaroo !

'New-age' country is BARELY TOLERABLE in extreme circumstances such as when the only other choice is cRap/Hip-hop.

Old-skool twangy/whiny-a$$ed country is pure NOISE POLLUTION of the HIGHEST magnitude.
THAT stuff is the kind of GARBAGE the EPA would be justified banning under threat of FELONY PRISON sentences. NOT JOKING.

I used to think a lot like that, too. But I noticed a couple things. George Jones had a set of pipes that most singers were envious of - the man could really sing. Many of those twangy singers are outstanding performers.

The other thing I noticed was the lyrics. There's probably no better example of twangy than some of the old Hank Williams (Sr) songs. "Jumbalaya" is a great example. OTOH, listening to "I'm So Lonesome, I Could Cry", I find the poetry to be pure genius.

Like you, there's lots of music out there I have a hard time respecting, but, even if old Hank sounded like a hick, you gotta respect his writing skills.

I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry

Words and music by Hank Williams

Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry

I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind the clouds
To hide its face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves began to die?
Like me he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry

.

Brings back memories. My dad would go at least once a week to the cattle auction in Athens (of course, he was an Ag Economist so it could be considered work-related) even though most of the time he wasn't buying or selling. He just liked hanging around everything. Every once in awhile he'd drag me along, and I hated it. Originally it was in a huge rickety wooden barn with a shack outside where the 'restaurant' was (good food though), and it was drafty in the winter and sweaty in the summer. In the late 60's it got rebuilt into a modern concrete, air-conditioned facility with the restaurant built in (and the food turned bland).

But yea, as a tv show? Don't think I'd watch for more than 15 seconds.

Don't get me wrong, cattle auctions are VERY important for those IN THE INDUSTRY.
So are chemicals for chemical engineers.
That doesn't mean either auctioned makes for a good TV program.

I love classic muscle cars and have never owned anything but 'high horsepower' cars; I also find the Barrett-Jackson car auction programs on TV awful.

Just because something CAN be on TV does NOT mean it SHOULD BE.
